Gaby specialises in all trade mark matters involved with trade mark portfolio management both local and foreign, including trade mark searching, filing and prosecution of trade mark applications, strategic brand advice and management. She also specialises in IP litigation and dispute resolution, such as trade mark litigation and oppositions, passing-off, copyright litigation, company name and domain name objections, as well as proceedings before the Advertising Standards Authority.
Gaby also specialises in general corporate commercial law and company law related work and her experience includes advising clients on a variety of commercial matters including drafting and negotiating various commercial documents and providing commercial and company law advice.
She has acted for local and foreign clients in various sectors including fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverage, media, clothing and footwear, cosmetics and perfumery, environmental, hospitality, financial services and energy.
Gaby’s practice focuses on providing clients with practical and commercially focused advice relating to their IP rights and commercial requirements.
She has experience in drafting various commercial IP and licence agreements and well as various commercial agreements such as the sale of share agreements, sale of business agreements, shareholders agreements and memoranda of incorporation.
Gaby commenced her articles at De Klerk & Van Gend Attorneys in the litigation department with a focus on dispute resolution in commercial and matrimonial law. Gaby continued to work in this field throughout her articles and thereafter and also expanded her practice to include surrogacy law.
She was admitted as an attorney in December 2012 and has right of appearance in the High Court.
In June 2014, Gaby joined Fairbridges as an associate in the intellectual property law (“IP”) department and was appointed as a senior associate in March 2016.
Gaby has also completed all the written examinations for the trade mark practitioner qualification with the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law and will be qualifying as a trade mark practitioner shortly.
